  • My racist kids

Vacation Bible school 2009 // Long Beach Corps

Lincoln gathered the kids in a circle.  It was game time with Lincoln and Chris.

“Okay, we’re going to get a chance to get to know one another.  Let’s try this quiz.  My name is Lincoln and my favorite fruit is watermelon.  What’s your favorite color?”  He pointed to a child.

    “Purple.”  She whispered.

“Okay, so what’s my favorite fruit?”

    “Watermelon!”  The kids screamed.

So Lincoln asked, “What’s her favorite color?”

    “Purple!”  They screamed.

Lincoln blurted, “What’s Chris’ favorite subject in school?”

“Math!”  They all yelled in unison.

“I didn’t say that!”  I screamed as I laughed.  “Kids, I didn’t even say my favorite subject!”

Lincoln looked in amazement at me and we started laughing while the kids stayed silent not knowing what just took place.

  • ANYWAY – Mother Teresa adaptation

    I like this.

    ANYWAY

    People
    are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.
    Love them anyway.

    If
you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
    Be kind anyway.

    If
you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies.
    Succeed anyway.

    The
good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
    Be good anyway.

    Honesty
and frankness will make you vulnerable.
    Be honest and frank anyway.

    What
you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
    Build anyway.

    People
need help but will attack you if you help them.
    Help them anyway.

    In
the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

*Kent Keith originated this poem in 1968, and Mother Teresa placed it on her
children’s home in Calcutta in a slightly different version. As a result,
many have attributed it to Mother Teresa.
